Elizabeth Mitchell - Class of 2011 (September 2014)

"I was captain of the University of Manchester 'University Challenge' team for the 2013-2014 season. We reached the semi-finals but were pipped to the post by the eventual winners, Trinity College, Cambridge. I wouldn't even have attended the trials if I hadn't previously taken part in 'Schools Challenge' with Mrs Rutter!

Having finished my degree in Politics, Philosophy & Economics, I am starting the Local Government Association's Graduate Scheme, where I will be working for Manchester City Council's Executive Office."

Delsa Ghorbani – Class of 2012

I am in my first year of Dentistry at the University of Manchester. Last year I took a Gap Year to pursue musical ambitions. Last year I was also exceptionally privileged to be one of the finalists on the Iranian equivalent of The X Factor, Googoosh Music AcademyIf it wasn't for my love of Dentistry I would have aspired to study opera. I am working on an opera album and orchestral compositions, and have performed in many festivals on the university circuit. I also won a national talent competition for all dental students within the United Kingdom.

Sophie GammageSophie Gammage – Class of 2012

Having decided to take a gap year before going to university, I found myself back at school working in administration for several months. The following February, I headed Down Under to undertake a four month internship with the Australian Institute of International Affairs. It enabled me to live independently for the first time and meet plenty of like-minded young people exploring politics and diplomatic relations. I am now studying Human, Social and Political Sciences at Cambridge. I am a member of the Women’s First Team for rowing, I represent my college in the Athletics Club and I am treasurer of our Humanities Society. My particular academic interests lie in conflict resolution and security studies; I am looking to study these in much more depth, with a view to a career in the Foreign Office or a structural development consultancy firm.
